In 2016, my startup, Tellmate Helper Private Limited, achieved a significant milestone. We were honoured as DST Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Programme winners. This recognition was a testament to our innovative approach to assistive technology for the visually impaired.

The journey began with a rigorous application process. We had to pitch our idea in Delhi and secure a place in the program. Our concept, Tellmate, aimed to help visually impaired people by converting visual data into audio signals. This innovation caught the attention of the judges, and we moved forward.

The program included an intensive 5-day Technology Commercialization workshop in Goa. This workshop was led by experts from Stanford University, including Baba Shiv. We learned about turning innovative ideas into viable business strategies. The sessions were enlightening and transformative. They helped us refine our approach and understand the complexities of technology commercialization.

Throughout the eight-month program, we participated in multiple rounds. We pitched in Delhi, attended workshops in Goa, and finally, went to Tirupati for the award ceremony. Each phase of this journey shaped our business model and strategy.

One highlight was the feedback on my pitch. Allison Kluger, a communications expert, provided valuable insights. She noted that my introduction needed clarity and suggested more open body language. Her feedback helped me improve my presentation skills significantly.

The workshop in Goa was intense and rewarding. Each session offered new insights and strategies. We delved deep into market analysis, business planning, and financial management. These lessons were crucial for Tellmate’s development.

Our hard work paid off in Delhi and Tirupati. The pitch sessions were nerve-wracking but rewarding. We presented Tellmate to a panel of industry leaders. Their positive response boosted our confidence and validated our efforts.

The recognition from DST, Lockheed Martin, and Stanford University was more than an award. It was a strong endorsement of our vision and hard work. This recognition provided us with credibility and opened new doors.

During the program, we built valuable connections. We partnered with Marico Innovation Foundation and Lensel Optics Pvt. Ltd. These partnerships were vital in advancing our technology and business model. The support from these organizations was invaluable.

The journey taught me many lessons. I learned about resilience, adaptability, and the power of continuous learning. The program was a transformative experience. It shaped Tellmate and my approach to innovation and entrepreneurship.

A Transformative Journey: Tellmate at The Economic Times – Power of Ideas

In 2015, my entrepreneurial journey with Tellmate took a significant leap. I applied to The Economic Times Power of Ideas program. The idea aimed to assist visually impaired people. Out of nearly 19,750 entries, Tellmate was selected among the top 75 teams.

The selection process began with an intensive pitch session at IIM Ahmedabad. I presented our vision to help the blind. The judges were impressed, and our idea was chosen for a 10-day workshop. This workshop was a turning point.

At IIM Ahmedabad, I received invaluable training. We worked with the Center for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE). Experts helped us refine our business model and strategy. This environment was full of innovative minds, which sparked many ideas and collaborations.

The support didn’t stop there. We also received a grant award of ₹200,000. This funding was crucial for developing our prototype. Our team worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life. We improved our proof of concept for a wearable device that converts visual data into audio signals. This concept aimed to provide greater independence to the visually impaired.

The 10-day workshop was intensive. It involved long hours and a lot of hard work. We focused on refining our product and business model. The training sessions covered various aspects of entrepreneurship. These included market analysis, business planning, and financial management. From Idea to Innovation: My Journey at Intel – DST Innovate for Digital India Challenge

In 2015, my journey with Tellmate began. I applied to the Innovate for Digital India program. My idea, then called “The Third Eye – Tellmate,” aimed to help visually impaired people. Out of 1,913 entries, I was selected among the top 75 teams to pitch my idea at IIM Ahmedabad.

During the pitch at IIM Ahmedabad, I showcased my vision to help the blind. My idea was chosen as one of the top 20 innovations. This success allowed me to attend a three-month-long boot camp accelerator program in Pune.

I received training from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business in Pune. My mentors, Andrew and Mark, provided invaluable guidance. I also got support from the Intel team with hardware like RealSense and software SDKs, along with backing from TCS Innovators and other program stakeholders.

The boot camp was intense and rewarding. I developed a 3D-printed vision glass prototype at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP). I built a Windows application with a proof of concept for converting visual input into audio signals. This prototype and proof of concept were significant milestones for me.

The three months in Pune were transformative. I moved from just an idea to a working prototype. This experience was crucial for my startup journey.

My journey with Tellmate at the Digital India Challenge taught me a lot. It was filled with hard work, learning, and invaluable support. This experience shaped my approach to innovation and entrepreneurship.
